I was just watching the St Pierre vs. Hardy fight (no spoilers) when I realised something about the type of Mixed Martial Arts grappling that you see in the Ultimate Fighting Championships.
Basically, if all other things are equal, a grappling defence will almost always be superior to a grappling attack.
But in order to show this I first need to explain a few things about the way I understand MMA, and fighting in general.
