This may seem mean since I’ve never met Ray Griggs. But after reading only a few things about him I already don’t like him.
Let’s start with this gem:
There is so much wrong here that I don’t know where to begin.
And before I even could begin Griggs sideswiped me by making a documentary claiming that Ronald Reagan’s response to government spending was better than Obama’s
REAGAN???? Ray Griggs is complaining that Obama is increasing national debt by comparing him to REEEEEEEEEEGAAAAAAAAAAN???????
I just…I don’t know.
I don’t know what to make of little Griggsy. Is he mad? Is he lying? Or is he just completely unaware of what he is talking about?
Let’s have a small dose of reality here:
Now, I’m aware that this is a bit hard to read on this small page so let me summarise:
You see that large red mass in the middle? That indicates increases in the national debt under Reagan and George Bush I.
Note how they dip just before each election so that they can claim that they reduced the deficit, that they originally created.
Note also how Ray Griggs is talking out of his ass.
Ronald Reagan oversaw a massive increase in national debt and he did it during a period when the Cold War was dying down.
He also managed to create huge debt increases while slashing social spending.
How? Simple: more tax breaks and corporate welfare for big business.
Griggs’ central thesis seems to be this:
1) Obama is taking “your” (i.e. ordinary americans’) money.
2) Reagan did not take “your” (see above) money.
Well, let’s talk about money then shall we?
This is a graph of wage increses by lower, middle and upper class.
See the sharp increase in the wealth of the richest that starts during the Reagan years and continues through the 2000s?
See the sharp decrease in the incomes of the poorest americans that starts at the same time?
Well, that’s Ronald Fucking Reagan “not” taking money away from Americans.
Or I could have just posted this, again:
I am of course not saying that Griggs shouldn’t have made the documentary. As ever (and unlike some of the posters on his website) I am in favour of real freedom of speech.
But what really worries me is that people who aren’t aware of the facts might watch Griggs’ propaganda and be convinced by it.
Although my stance on freedom is pretty ironic considering that the rallying cry of Griggs and his ilk is:
“destroy big government” which basically means:
“remove the government by the people and for the people and replace it with corporations who don’t answer to anyone”.
It is the essence of anti-democracy.
And it completely ignores the fact that it was Bush II who oversaw the largest increase in the US federal government for decades (where do you think the Department of Homeland Security came from?). He also oversaw a huge increase in the deficit and, like Reagan, he did it while cutting benefits to ordinary people during an economic boom!
And Reagan supported the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan, and gave Osama bin Laden a million dollars to buy weapons.
So here’s another dose of reality: It was Bush who started the initial bailouts and Bush who deliberately botched them to drive up the national debt. Obama’s big mission so far has been to provide Americans with Healthcare that actually works.
Given that one of the largest causes of bankruptcy in the US is exorbitant healthcare costs I would have thought that Griggsy would be in favour of it. He claims to want to protect people’s money, right?
On the other hand Ronald Reagan sold weapons to America’s enemies and when that didn’t work he ordered the CIA to faciltate cocaine smuggling into the US, all so that he could run a terrorist war against a democracy he didn’t like.
He refused to enforce laws that protected labour from exploitation and thus made conditions for ordinary working Americans more dangerous, and for less pay.
Ronald Reagan is one of the worst Presidents that America has ever had.
The worst you can say about Obama is that he’s got slightly less of the bad, and not quite enough of the good, as Republican presidents.
If I’m wrong about any of this then please, have the courage to post below.
