And then this happened:

Photoshopping a Jewish guy so that he has a big nose. Nice one Fox. I’m sure no one saw that coming.

I assure you, this is a genuine, and what is even stranger is that Fox’s defence was that lots of news organisations feature photoshopped pictures.

Well yes, sadly that is true. But when they do the pictures are usually shopped to remove blurriness, distracting objects or other things that make the meaning of the photo unclear.

Shopping an image so that it presents a caricature of someone you are personally attacking is something that no journalist would do.

Of course Fox aren’t journalists, so I guess they are in the clear.

But the topic of racism brings us around to:

5. It’s Only Racist If I Use The ‘N’ Word
In the run up to the 2008 election Fox received a shock that almost struck them dead from sheer horror: the Democrats had a strong contender, and he was BLACK! D:

To Fox it must have seemed as if they were taking crazy pills. Could no one else see this? Was no one else freaking out about the possibility of having a black president?

Well, if they weren’t going to freak out then by jingo Fox could MAKE THEM freak out.

It’s just a name damn it. I mean Saddam Hussein’s middle name was Ringo but that didn’t stop him! Actually that isn’t true. I just said it for effect.

The hysterical claim that Obama actually wasn’t born in the US and the faked documents that were created to support the stupidity are another example of this trend.

But in addition to the conspiracy theories Fox’s broadcasts also had a serious undercurrent of crypto-racism.

Check these out:

And then he said he was gon’ pop a cap up in here, and ain’t never gon’ get caught ridin’ dirty!

This is either poorly disguised racism, or it’s a condescending attempt to “speak the same language” as the Harvard educated President. Either way: they suck.

You see friends the reason why this is a problem is because it betrays a fundamentally racist attitude in Fox News itself, and, by inference, their demographic as well.

As I mentioned in the caption above these comments are either an attempt to “speak the language” of Barack Obama, in which case they are extremely racist because they assume that all African Americans must speak in a way that fulfils racist stereotypes.

Or they are a deliberate plot to play into the fears of Caucasian Americans and give them the impression that they are about to elect a young black man from the inner city, who thus represents everything they fear.

And if that is the case it is even more racist.

Isn’t it great that the KKK has fallen far enough to be nothing more than a joke? :)

6. But why?
The question we need to ask ourselves is ‘why’? Why are they doing this? The spelling mistakes and other fails could just be coincidence. But the coverage of the election and the health care debate are blatantly biased. Fox News’ anchors and “personalities” are not stupid people. They must know what they are doing, and they must know that it is completely against journalistic ethics.

So why do the do it?

My theory is that their thinking is exactly the same as that displayed by George Bush, Dick Cheney, Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh: the ends justify the means.

It’s just that simple. These people legitimately believe that America is under threat from Democracy and progress and that the only way to save it from itself is to convince people to accept things they normally wouldn’t accept.

Like journalists who make stuff up.

Because even if you agree with all of the Foxisms that I’ve posted above you can’t deny the fact that Fox presents a view of the world that is out of touch with reality. They claim that America has the highest standard of living on earth (it doesn’t). They state openly that Hugo Chavez is a dictator (he’s actually a democratically elected president, if a bit of an asshole at times). They try to keep alive the myth that Iraq had something to do with 9/11 (it didn’t) and they just won’t stop plugging the idea that national health care is somehow a bad thing.

And they do all this because they believe that America is fine the way it is, and could never be improved.

Oh, how wrong they are.

It must be noted that MOST countries in the world are as bad as this, if not worse. But it would be nice if America could at least admit that this is happening, instead of pretending that everything is fine.
